Ford has a long and storied history that began before the turn of the century. The history of the Ford Motor Company begins and ends with Henry Ford. Ford failed twice at creating a motor company before successfully creating the Ford Motor Company in 1903 but that success did not come without some adversity. The Ford Motor Company, with twelve investors and a thousand shares, had spent almost all of its original investment by the time it had sold its first Ford Model A on July 23rd,1903. Ford and his investors stayed the course, turned a profit of $37,000 by October 1st, 1903, and the Ford Motor Company was off and running.

The Ford Motor Company had plenty of milestones and accomplishments throughout its history but these three had an effect on the entire automobile industry. In 1908 the Ford Motor company created the Ford Model T, in 1913 Ford introduced the integrated moving assembly line, and in 1914 Ford instituted the "$5 Day".

Ford acquired the Lincoln Motor Company in 1922 and began producing and selling the Lincoln brand. Edsel Ford, Henry Ford's successor, created the Mercury brand in 1938 to bridge the gap between Ford and the luxurious Lincoln cars. Ford introduced the F-Series line of trucks in 1948 using a different style from the original Ford truck, the Model TT, which was originally produced in 1917. While the Model TT was based on the Model T car, the F-Series was based on purpose-built truck platform.

Ford introduced two radically new cars in the 1940's and early 1950's. With the 1949 Ford and the Ford Thunderbird, Ford cars took on a whole new look. These two cars had a more sporty and performance look that was a radical change from the older Ford models. The Ford Mustang was successfully introduced in 1964 and remains a success today.

Ford continued to revolutionize the automobile industry with the addition of new and improved vehicles such as the Fiesta and Taurus and helped launch the sport utility vehicle in the United States in 1990 with the Ford Explorer.

As Ford roared into the 2000's, there were many milestones and events to celebrate including the 100th anniversary in 2003,introduction of Eco boost engines, unveiling of Ford SYNC, the 13th generation of the F-Series, and the 50th anniversary of the Mustang.
